Show me the man who would always endure
And to the vale of tears, I'll take him sure
To doubt is to know and here is the mile
Why not follow me and walk for a while?

Our warship landed and we came ashore
The b'attle was over forevermore
Being wounded, fellow soldiers left me out
Stones my pillow, sands my bed without doubt

The enemies' cruel crew found me sooner
Took me away and made me a prisoner
Hard luck came but the supreme was in state
To my rescue, he came and changed my fate

One sunny day, the doors were wide open
Away I sneaked like a cart a cart being driven
Straight to my poor home to see my sweet wife
But the doorpost had the shock of my life.

Hanging over there was a wedding frame
A trusted wife with a best friend now same
She wore a veiled gown and he, a new suit
Wounding my trusts and hope not just a bit

I looked back to the picture in passion
And saw where she wrote; "Miss you in action!"
For earlier, I had given her one year
She had thought me dead after a year's fear

My arrival saw my face very pale
No one to treat my wounds and hear my tale
Though a vagabond and a looser kind,
Never will her beauty slip off my mind!
